What is temporary power supply?
Temporary power supply is a compliant, metered connection installed for the duration of a project or event — most commonly a temporary builders supply (TBS) on a construction site, or a temporary connection for an event or function. It lets you draw power from the network safely and legally before the permanent connection is in place. Because it connects to the network, it is Level 2 ASP work.
On a building site, a temporary builders supply provides power for tools, site sheds, lighting and equipment from the earliest stages of construction. It must be installed to AS/NZS 3012 (construction and demolition sites) with the correct RCD protection, distribution and metering, and connected by an ASP authorised for your distributor. We install the temporary pole or board, connect it to the network, arrange metering, and later transition the site to its permanent supply when the build is ready.
Castellano Electrical installs temporary supplies for residential builds, larger construction sites and events across Sydney, for both Ausgrid and Endeavour Energy areas. We size the temporary supply to the site’s load, ensure it meets construction-site safety standards, and coordinate the timing so power is available exactly when your program needs it. When the permanent connection is ready we manage the changeover and remove the temporary supply, keeping everything documented and compliant.
Why only a Level 2 ASP can do this work
Temporary Power Supply is work on the network side of your electricity supply — the connection between the distributor's network and your meter. A standard electrician is licensed for the wiring inside your property, but only a Level 2 Authorised Service Provider (ASP) is authorised to connect, disconnect or alter that supply. If this work is done by a non-ASP, the distributor will not energise it and it has to be redone.
Castellano Electrical holds Level 2 ASP authorisation for both Ausgrid and Endeavour Energy, so we can carry out temporary power supply anywhere in Greater Sydney and manage the distributor process for you. You can read more about electrical licensing in NSW via NSW Fair Trading.
The process, step by step
- Assess site load. We size the temporary supply to your construction or event power needs.
- Install temporary board. We install the temporary pole/board with compliant RCD protection and distribution.
- Connect & meter. We connect to the network and arrange temporary metering.
- Support the project. We remain available for changes as the site develops.
- Transition to permanent. We change over to the permanent supply and remove the temporary connection.
Key benefits
- Compliant temporary builders supply to AS/NZS 3012
- Correct RCD protection, distribution and metering
- Sized to your site or event load
- Authorised for both Ausgrid and Endeavour Energy areas
- Managed changeover to permanent supply when ready
Distributor coverage & service areas
We provide temporary power supply across both Sydney network areas. Your property's distributor determines the application process and standards, and we are authorised for both:
- Ausgrid: Ausgrid operates the electricity network across the Sydney CBD, eastern suburbs, inner west, lower and upper north shore, northern beaches, the Central Coast and the Hunter.
- Endeavour Energy: Endeavour Energy operates the network across Greater Western Sydney, the South West, the Blue Mountains, the Southern Highlands and the Illawarra.
Not sure which network covers you? Our Ausgrid vs Endeavour Energy service areas guide breaks it down suburb by suburb, or see all the Sydney areas we cover.
What does it cost?
Temporary supply cost depends on the site load, pole/board configuration and duration. Quoted up front for your project.
