Commercial & Industrial New Connections in Sydney

High-capacity network connections for commercial and industrial premises — including CT metering and three-phase supply.

What is commercial & industrial new connections?

Commercial and industrial premises draw far more power than a home, and their network connections reflect that: larger three-phase supplies, current-transformer (CT) metering for high loads, and sometimes a dedicated distribution substation. Castellano Electrical delivers Level 2 ASP new connections for warehouses, factories, retail and commercial fit-outs and industrial facilities across Ausgrid and Endeavour Energy areas, including the demanding industrial estates of Western Sydney.

A commercial connection starts with confirming the available supply at the site and the load the business requires, then designing the connection to suit — including whether CT metering or a substation is needed. We lodge the connection application with the distributor, install the consumer mains and connection assets to the required standard, and coordinate the CT metering installation. For tenancy fit-outs we handle the metering and supply changes that the new use requires.

Downtime is expensive for a commercial operator, so we plan the connection around your occupancy and operating requirements and keep the distributor process moving to avoid delays to opening or production. Whether it’s a new industrial unit in Wetherill Park, a retail tenancy in Parramatta or a warehouse in Smithfield, we provide the high-capacity connection, metering and certification that gets the premises energised and operating.

Why only a Level 2 ASP can do this work

Commercial & Industrial New Connections is work on the network side of your electricity supply — the connection between the distributor's network and your meter. A standard electrician is licensed for the wiring inside your property, but only a Level 2 Authorised Service Provider (ASP) is authorised to connect, disconnect or alter that supply. If this work is done by a non-ASP, the distributor will not energise it and it has to be redone.

Castellano Electrical holds Level 2 ASP authorisation for both Ausgrid and Endeavour Energy, so we can carry out commercial & industrial new connections anywhere in Greater Sydney and manage the distributor process for you. You can read more about electrical licensing in NSW via NSW Fair Trading.

The process, step by step

  1. Confirm supply & load. We confirm available supply at the site and the load the business requires.
  2. Design the connection. We design the connection, including CT metering or substation requirements.
  3. Lodge application. We lodge the connection application with the distributor.
  4. Install & meter. We install the connection assets and coordinate CT metering.
  5. Energise & certify. We energise the premises and provide certification.

Distributor coverage & service areas

We provide commercial & industrial new connections across both Sydney network areas. Your property's distributor determines the application process and standards, and we are authorised for both:

  • Ausgrid: Ausgrid operates the electricity network across the Sydney CBD, eastern suburbs, inner west, lower and upper north shore, northern beaches, the Central Coast and the Hunter.
  • Endeavour Energy: Endeavour Energy operates the network across Greater Western Sydney, the South West, the Blue Mountains, the Southern Highlands and the Illawarra.

What does it cost?

Commercial connection cost depends on supply size, metering type and substation needs. Provided as a scoped package quote.

Commercial & Industrial New Connections: your questions answered

What is different about a commercial or industrial connection?

They draw much more power, requiring larger three-phase supplies, often current-transformer (CT) metering for high loads, and sometimes a dedicated distribution substation. We design and deliver the connection to suit the load.

Why is an ASP needed for commercial connections?

A standard (Level 1) electrician is licensed to work on the wiring inside your property, but only a Level 2 Authorised Service Provider (ASP) is authorised by the network distributor to work on the connection between the network and your meter. That includes connections, disconnections, the consumer mains, the point of attachment and metering. Using a non-ASP for this work is illegal and the distributor will not energise it.

What is CT metering and do I need it?

CT (current transformer) metering is used where the load is too high for direct metering. If your premises draws above the direct-metering threshold, CT metering is required, and we coordinate its installation.

Can you connect a tenancy fit-out?

Yes. For commercial fit-outs we handle the metering and supply changes the new use requires, coordinated around your opening timeline.

How do you minimise downtime for an operating business?

We plan the connection around your occupancy and operating hours and keep the distributor process moving to avoid delays to opening or production.

Do you work in Western Sydney industrial estates?

Yes — including the major estates at Wetherill Park, Smithfield and across Greater Western Sydney, as well as CBD and metropolitan tenancies. We are authorised for both Ausgrid and Endeavour Energy.

What approvals are required?

A connection application to the distributor, confirmation of available supply at the site, and inspections during the works. We manage the application and approvals.

How is a commercial connection priced?

It depends on the supply size, metering type and whether a substation is required. We provide a scoped package quote.
