Construction Site Temporary Power in Sydney

Temporary builders supply for construction sites of any scale — compliant, metered site power from day one.

What is construction site temporary power?

Every construction site needs power before the permanent connection exists, and on a commercial or multi-dwelling project that temporary supply has to be sized, protected and metered to suit a busy, evolving site. Castellano Electrical installs construction-site temporary power for builders across Sydney — from a single residential build to large multi-stage projects — connected by a Level 2 ASP authorised for your distributor.

Construction-site supplies must comply with AS/NZS 3012, with appropriate RCD protection, robust distribution to where the trades need it, and metering for the power drawn. We size the temporary supply to the site’s peak load — cranes, hoists, site sheds, lighting and power tools — install the temporary mains and distribution, connect to the Ausgrid or Endeavour Energy network, and keep the supply serviceable as the site’s needs change through the build.

Because we also deliver the permanent connection, we plan the temporary supply and the permanent works together. That means the changeover from temporary to permanent power is coordinated to your program, with no avoidable downtime, and the temporary supply is removed cleanly when it’s no longer needed. For builders, that’s one ASP managing site power from the first slab to handover.

Why only a Level 2 ASP can do this work

Construction Site Temporary Power is work on the network side of your electricity supply — the connection between the distributor's network and your meter. A standard electrician is licensed for the wiring inside your property, but only a Level 2 Authorised Service Provider (ASP) is authorised to connect, disconnect or alter that supply. If this work is done by a non-ASP, the distributor will not energise it and it has to be redone.

Castellano Electrical holds Level 2 ASP authorisation for both Ausgrid and Endeavour Energy, so we can carry out construction site temporary power anywhere in Greater Sydney and manage the distributor process for you. You can read more about electrical licensing in NSW via NSW Fair Trading.

The process, step by step

  1. Assess site load. We size the temporary supply to the site’s peak construction load.
  2. Install temporary supply. We install compliant temporary mains, distribution and RCD protection.
  3. Connect & meter. We connect to the network and arrange temporary metering.
  4. Maintain through build. We adjust the supply as the site’s needs change.
  5. Changeover to permanent. We coordinate the changeover and remove the temporary supply.

Key benefits

  • Compliant temporary site supply to AS/NZS 3012
  • Sized to peak construction load including cranes and hoists
  • Robust distribution and RCD protection across the site
  • Coordinated changeover to permanent supply
  • One ASP managing temporary and permanent power

Distributor coverage & service areas

We provide construction site temporary power across both Sydney network areas. Your property's distributor determines the application process and standards, and we are authorised for both:

  • Ausgrid: Ausgrid operates the electricity network across the Sydney CBD, eastern suburbs, inner west, lower and upper north shore, northern beaches, the Central Coast and the Hunter.
  • Endeavour Energy: Endeavour Energy operates the network across Greater Western Sydney, the South West, the Blue Mountains, the Southern Highlands and the Illawarra.

Not sure which network covers you? Our Ausgrid vs Endeavour Energy service areas guide breaks it down suburb by suburb, or see all the Sydney areas we cover.

What does it cost?

Construction-site supply cost depends on site load, distribution and duration. Provided as a scoped package quote.

Construction Site Temporary Power: your questions answered

What is construction site temporary power?

It is the temporary builders supply that powers a construction site before the permanent connection exists — sized to the site load and installed to AS/NZS 3012 with proper RCD protection, distribution and metering.

Why does it have to be a Level 2 ASP?

A standard (Level 1) electrician is licensed to work on the wiring inside your property, but only a Level 2 Authorised Service Provider (ASP) is authorised by the network distributor to work on the connection between the network and your meter. That includes connections, disconnections, the consumer mains, the point of attachment and metering. Using a non-ASP for this work is illegal and the distributor will not energise it.

How do you size the temporary supply?

We size it to the site’s peak load — cranes, hoists, site sheds, lighting and power tools — so the supply is reliable through the busiest phases of the build.

Can you scale the supply as the project grows?

Yes. We keep the temporary supply serviceable and adjust the distribution as the site’s needs change through construction.

Do you handle the changeover to permanent power?

Yes. Because we also deliver the permanent connection, we coordinate the changeover to your program with no avoidable downtime, then remove the temporary supply.

What safety standard applies to site power?

AS/NZS 3012 governs electrical installations on construction and demolition sites, including RCD protection and distribution. We install and maintain the supply to that standard.

Can you supply large multi-stage projects?

Yes — from a single residential build to large multi-stage commercial projects. We scope the temporary supply to the site.

How is construction site power priced?

It depends on the site load, distribution and duration. We provide a scoped package quote.
