What is multi-dwelling & unit development connections?
Multi-dwelling developments — duplexes, townhouse rows, villa complexes and apartment buildings — need a connection strategy that serves every dwelling compliantly while suiting the building’s metering and supply design. Castellano Electrical delivers the Level 2 ASP connection works for residential and mixed-use developments across Sydney, coordinating supply capacity, metering and the network connection for both Ausgrid and Endeavour Energy areas.
These projects often require a larger supply than a single home, three-phase distribution, a metering room or bank of meters for individual dwellings, and sometimes a distribution substation for larger buildings. We work from the development’s electrical design to confirm the network connection requirements, lodge the connection application, install the consumer mains and metering provisions, and energise the building so individual dwellings can be metered and occupied.
For builders and developers, the value is in coordination. We align the connection works with the construction program, flag the supply and metering decisions that need to be made early, and manage the distributor relationship so the building can be energised on time. From a backyard duplex to a multi-storey unit block, we provide the connection, metering provisions and certification that bring the development to a live, compliant supply.
Why only a Level 2 ASP can do this work
Multi-Dwelling & Unit Development Connections is work on the network side of your electricity supply — the connection between the distributor's network and your meter. A standard electrician is licensed for the wiring inside your property, but only a Level 2 Authorised Service Provider (ASP) is authorised to connect, disconnect or alter that supply. If this work is done by a non-ASP, the distributor will not energise it and it has to be redone.
Castellano Electrical holds Level 2 ASP authorisation for both Ausgrid and Endeavour Energy, so we can carry out multi-dwelling & unit development connections anywhere in Greater Sydney and manage the distributor process for you. You can read more about electrical licensing in NSW via NSW Fair Trading.
The process, step by step
- Review electrical design. We review the development’s electrical and metering design and confirm network requirements.
- Connection application. We lodge the connection application and any substation requirements with the distributor.
- Install supply & metering. We install the consumer mains, distribution and metering provisions.
- Coordinate metering. We coordinate individual dwelling metering with the providers.
- Energise & certify. We energise the development and certify the connection.
Key benefits
- Connection strategy for duplexes through to apartment blocks
- Three-phase distribution and metering-room provisions
- Individual dwelling metering coordinated with providers
- Supply and substation requirements identified early
- Energisation aligned to your construction program
Distributor coverage & service areas
We provide multi-dwelling & unit development connections across both Sydney network areas. Your property's distributor determines the application process and standards, and we are authorised for both:
- Ausgrid: Ausgrid operates the electricity network across the Sydney CBD, eastern suburbs, inner west, lower and upper north shore, northern beaches, the Central Coast and the Hunter.
- Endeavour Energy: Endeavour Energy operates the network across Greater Western Sydney, the South West, the Blue Mountains, the Southern Highlands and the Illawarra.
Not sure which network covers you? Our Ausgrid vs Endeavour Energy service areas guide breaks it down suburb by suburb, or see all the Sydney areas we cover.
What does it cost?
Multi-dwelling connection cost depends on dwelling count, supply size and metering. Provided as a scoped package quote.
