What is solar & battery grid connection?
Connecting a solar PV or battery system to the grid involves more than mounting panels. The point where your system feeds back into the network — and the metering and supply changes that go with it — is Level 2 ASP work. Castellano Electrical provides the network-side connection for solar and battery installations: reconfiguring or upgrading metering for bi-directional (export) measurement, upgrading the supply where the system requires it, and lodging the connection and export approval with Ausgrid or Endeavour Energy.
Many solar jobs stall at the grid-connection stage. A larger inverter may exceed your single-phase export limit and require a three-phase upgrade; an old meter may not support export and need replacing; or the switchboard may need work before the system can be safely connected and energised. We assess these requirements up front so your installer’s timeline isn’t derailed, and we handle the distributor application for connection and export so your system can legally feed back into the grid.
For battery and hybrid systems the requirements can be more involved again, particularly where backup supply and load shedding are part of the design. We make sure the metering, supply capacity and network approval all line up with the system being installed, complete the ASP connection work to standard, and certify it. Whether you are adding a modest rooftop array or a large solar-and-battery setup, we deliver the network connection that lets it run — and export — compliantly.
Why only a Level 2 ASP can do this work
Solar & Battery Grid Connection is work on the network side of your electricity supply — the connection between the distributor's network and your meter. A standard electrician is licensed for the wiring inside your property, but only a Level 2 Authorised Service Provider (ASP) is authorised to connect, disconnect or alter that supply. If this work is done by a non-ASP, the distributor will not energise it and it has to be redone.
Castellano Electrical holds Level 2 ASP authorisation for both Ausgrid and Endeavour Energy, so we can carry out solar & battery grid connection anywhere in Greater Sydney and manage the distributor process for you. You can read more about electrical licensing in NSW via NSW Fair Trading.
The process, step by step
- Review the system. We review the inverter, battery and export requirements against your existing supply.
- Identify upgrades. We confirm any metering, supply or switchboard upgrades needed for connection.
- Network approval. We lodge the connection and export approval with Ausgrid or Endeavour Energy.
- Connect & meter. We complete the ASP connection and arrange the export-capable meter.
- Energise & certify. We energise the connection and issue compliance documentation.
Key benefits
- Bi-directional (export) metering reconfiguration or upgrade
- Supply upgrades where larger inverters require them
- Network connection and export approval lodged with the distributor
- Switchboard work to safely connect solar and battery
- Keeps your solar installer’s timeline on track
Distributor coverage & service areas
We provide solar & battery grid connection across both Sydney network areas. Your property's distributor determines the application process and standards, and we are authorised for both:
- Ausgrid: Ausgrid operates the electricity network across the Sydney CBD, eastern suburbs, inner west, lower and upper north shore, northern beaches, the Central Coast and the Hunter.
- Endeavour Energy: Endeavour Energy operates the network across Greater Western Sydney, the South West, the Blue Mountains, the Southern Highlands and the Illawarra.

What does it cost?
Solar connection cost depends on whether metering or supply upgrades are required. Often quoted with your solar installer.
