When you need an emergency Level 2 electrician

An electrical emergency that affects the network side of your supply — the connection between the network and your meter — can only be made safe by a Level 2 Authorised Service Provider (ASP). An ordinary electrician cannot legally isolate or reconnect the supply at the point of attachment. Castellano Electrical runs a genuine 24/7 emergency service, authorised for both Ausgrid and Endeavour Energy, so wherever you are in Greater Sydney we can attend at any hour.

Emergency disconnections are needed whenever there is an immediate safety risk — a meter box fire, storm or fallen-tree damage to your service line, flooding around the switchboard, or a vehicle striking a power pole. Emergency connections matter too: when a renovation or demolition must proceed, when a builder needs power restored, or when a failed service has left a property without supply. In every case we isolate or restore the supply safely, then lodge the required notifications with your distributor.

Common emergencies we attend

Meter box fire

Smoke, burning smell or fire at the meter box — the supply must be isolated at the network immediately.

Storm & fallen-tree damage

A branch or storm has brought down or damaged your overhead service line.

Flooding at the switchboard

Water around the meter or switchboard — power needs to be made safe before anyone enters.

Renovation / demolition start

Urgent disconnection needed so demolition or building work can begin safely.

Vehicle vs power pole

An impact to a pole or service line near your property creating a live hazard.

Detached service line

The service line has pulled away from the house or is sagging dangerously low.

What happens when you call

  1. You speak to a Level 2 ASP. We triage the emergency over the phone and give you make-safe guidance immediately while we mobilise.
  2. Rapid attendance. We aim to be on site within around 2 hours anywhere in Greater Sydney, with the equipment to isolate or restore supply on the spot.
  3. Make safe and isolate. We safely disconnect or isolate the supply at the network point of attachment and remove the immediate hazard.
  4. Repair or reconnect. Where possible we complete the repair or reconnection the same visit; otherwise we stabilise the site and schedule the permanent fix.
  5. Notify and certify. We lodge the required notifications with Ausgrid or Endeavour Energy and issue your compliance documentation — exactly what your insurer will need.

What to do while you wait

If a power line is down, sparking or arcing, stay well clear — keep at least eight metres away, keep children and pets back, and never touch anything the line is in contact with. Do not approach a flooded switchboard or meter box. If there is fire or an immediate threat to life, call 000 first, then call our emergency line. If it is safe to do so and you know how, you can switch off your main switch — but never put yourself at risk to do it.

Not sure whether your issue is a true emergency or network-side work at all? Read our guide to what a Level 2 electrician does, or see the full emergency connections & disconnections service. We also cover every suburb across Sydney on both the Ausgrid and Endeavour Energy networks.

Emergency electrician FAQs

What counts as an electrical emergency that needs a Level 2 ASP?

Anything affecting the network side of your supply that creates an immediate safety risk: a meter box fire, a fallen or sagging overhead service line, storm or tree damage to your service, flooding around the switchboard, or a vehicle hitting a power pole. These require isolation or disconnection at the network point of attachment, which only a Level 2 ASP can perform.

How quickly can you attend an after-hours emergency?

We aim to be on site within around two hours anywhere in Greater Sydney, day or night. When you call, our technician gives you make-safe advice immediately while we mobilise, so the situation is managed even before we arrive.

Can a normal electrician fix a downed power line to my house?

No. A standard (Level 1) electrician is licensed to work on the wiring inside your property, but only a Level 2 Authorised Service Provider (ASP) is authorised by the network distributor to work on the connection between the network and your meter. That includes connections, disconnections, the consumer mains, the point of attachment and metering. Using a non-ASP for this work is illegal and the distributor will not energise it. A downed or damaged service line is network-side work and an ordinary electrician cannot legally touch it.

My overhead line is sparking or has come down — what should I do?

Stay well clear — at least eight metres — keep others and pets away, and do not touch anything the line is contacting. Call our 24/7 emergency line straight away. If there is fire or immediate danger to life, call 000 first.

Do you charge more for after-hours and weekend call-outs?

Emergency call-out fees vary with the time of day and the scope of work, and after-hours and public-holiday attendance carries a premium. We confirm the cost with you before we begin so there are no surprises.

Do you cover both Ausgrid and Endeavour Energy areas at night?

Yes. We are authorised for both Ausgrid and Endeavour Energy, so wherever your property sits in Greater Sydney we can attend and carry out emergency connection or disconnection work 24/7.

Can you disconnect power urgently so demolition or repairs can start?

Yes. We carry out emergency disconnections so demolishers, builders or restorers can work safely — including temporary isolation where the supply will be reconnected later. We also lodge the required notification with your distributor.

Will I get the paperwork my insurer needs?

Yes. Every emergency job includes the relevant compliance documentation and a record of the work and distributor notifications, which is exactly what your insurer will ask for after storm, fire or impact damage.
